Each year the Foundation receives nominations in ten established categories. Nominations open in November and close at the end of February.
A panel of knowledgeable judges, with cross-sectoral experience, carry out an independent evaluation based on criteria outlined in the nominations package and select the finalists and recipients.

In particular Alberta Canada (much like Texas and other ranchland, oil industry occupied regions) has an abundance of personally owned and commercial pickup trucks on its roads. Solar energy is free, abundant, and greenhouse gas-free. Currently, solar technology for power generation is being commercialised at a fast pace, globally.

However, solar energy is also an ideal means to provide renewable heat/steam to industrial applications, at commercially proven temperatures in excess of 500 C. Solar-fossil fuel hybrid technology can help industries improve their environmental performance by lowering their greenhouse gas footprint. Furthermore, solar thermal energy con also be used to synthesise high-value chemical fuels such as hydrogen/syngas, and can be stored for later use, extending its dispatchability beyond sunlit hours.
