I have to say, I’m more of a Nissan Leaf fan, but it’s nice to see the Chevy Volt is also picking up steam and achieving some sales milestones (including finding more buyers in October than the Leaf).

If Chris Paine’s earlier movie, “Who Killed the Electric Car” (WKtEC), was about people being deprived of their vehicles and used as pawns in a struggle between government regulations and established business, then his latest film, “Revenge of the Electric Car,” is about the Kings.
The Journey For the trip to the theater, I used an electric vehicle,.. though many don’t consider how the subway’s are powered. The train was stopped two stations short of my destination for a passenger with a seizure and I decided to walk. Many can be subject to what affects one train, but is this so different than a traffic accident on a highway? The air was crisp and most New Yorkers are under-dressed for spending much time outside. Along the way, newspapers proclaimed in headlines the demise of ...

General Motors today announced that it is ramping up sales of its plug-in hybrid electric car, the Chevy Volt, in two new states: North Carolina and South Carolina.
Like other new electric cars, the Volt is only available in a few states. Before today’s announcement, it was available in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, California, Michigan and Texas, a representative of the company said. The Leaf initially rolled out in California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona and Tennessee. California is the only state where the two cars overlap right now. Volt deliveries will begin in North Carolina and South Carolina in August, company officials said.

Nissan’s all-electric Leaf is now the clear leader in low-end electric car sales.
Nissan sold 1,708 Leaf cars in June. That puts it well ahead of General Motors, which sold 561 of its hybrid electric Volt cars in the same month. Nissan has now sold 3,875 Leafs compared to General Motors’ 2,745 Volts sold in the first half of the year.
It’s the first indication that Nissan has taken an early lead in the fiercely competitive, but still very small, race for electric car sales. While Volt sales have risen incrementally, Nissan Leaf have gone up by around 50 percent each month for the past few months.
Nissan’s Leaf sales were more than double that of the Volt in May, with the company selling 1,142 cars in the month. General Motors sold 481 Volts in ...

A California program that gives hybrid and pure-electric car buyers a rebate between $1,500 and $5,000 has run out of funding for the remainder of the state’s fiscal year ending June 30.
The state of California allocated $7 million last year for rebates to qualified electric car buyers. The popularity of the federally-mandated Cash for Clunkers program sent car buyers out in droves. Spurred on by high gas prices, early adopters were eager to go out and buy electric and hybrid-electric cars.
The next fiscal year’s budget allocates between $12 million and $17 million for a similar rebate program. But the budget has yet to pass and the state cannot begin spending money on the program until it does.

Less than a fifth of electric car buyers listed the price tag of an electric car as the most important factor when deciding to buy an electric car, according to a new report by management consulting firm Accenture.
Most of the concerns for electric car buyers center around how long it takes to charge the car and how far it is able to drive, according to the report. Electric cars are typically limited in how far they are able to drive and they can take a long time to recharge. It can take up to 5 hours for some vehicles to charge completely from a dry battery to a full charge. The Nissan Leaf, one of the cheapest electric cars on the market, can only travel around 100 miles before needing to recharge.
Most electric car buyers were concerned about how much money they would ...

The German government has allotted an additional €1 billion ($1.4 billion) in research and development aid for electric cars on top of its existing aid in the form of tax credits and dedicated parking spots to meet its goal of having 1 million electric cars on the road by 2020.
That will put Germany in a neck-and-neck race with the United States to deploy as many electric cars as possible. The U.S. government has promoted electric cars stateside by offering tax credits to electric car buyers to bring the price of electric cars down and make them more appealing to mainstream car buyers. The Nissan Leaf, which costs $32,780 before government tax credits, is one of the cheapest electric vehicles but still carries a rather daunting price tag. It will be another A/B test to see which government investment strategy — the one ...

Top Gear, the high-profile car-fanatic show in the United Kingdom known for its high-profile libel lawsuit against Tesla Motors, might have been shooting an episode with another planned electric car outage, according to photos and video taken by a local newspaper.
In the latest video, the Top Gear hosts (shown right with a Mitsubishi i electric car) are seen pushing the dry electric cars to a nearby university to find a suitable place to charge them, according to photos taken by local paper The Lincolnite. The last time the team was seen pushing an electric car was when the team claimed the Tesla Roadster had run out of electricity — which led to a high-profile lawsuit from the sporty electric car’s manufacturer Tesla Motors. The latest filming shows the team pushing around a Nissan Leaf and a Mitsubishi i.
