The Chevy Volt has been having a bit of a rough time lately, but the news you probably haven’t heard is that the Chevy Volt got the highest consumer satisfaction rating in Consumer Reports’ annual ownership survey. 93% of Volt owners said they would buy the vehicle again.

The Porsche 911 and Dodge Challenger tied for second with a score or 91%.

Some notes of caution, however:

due to the Volt not being out for long, Consumer Reports was only able to survey a small number of Volt owners; and it “cautioned that early adopters of new technology tend to be more enthusiastic (although the same qualification is true for sports car aficionados), and that other new eco cars, such as the Smart ForTwo, debuted on the market with rave reviews from owners, only to see customer satisfaction scores fall once the ...

I have to say, I’m more of a Nissan Leaf fan, but it’s nice to see the Chevy Volt is also picking up steam and achieving some sales milestones (including finding more buyers in October than the Leaf).

If Chris Paine’s earlier movie, “Who Killed the Electric Car” (WKtEC), was about people being deprived of their vehicles and used as pawns in a struggle between government regulations and established business, then his latest film, “Revenge of the Electric Car,” is about the Kings.

The Journey For the trip to the theater, I used an electric vehicle,.. though many don’t consider how the subway’s are powered. The train was stopped two stations short of my destination for a passenger with a seizure and I decided to walk. Many can be subject to what affects one train, but is this so different than a traffic accident on a highway? The air was crisp and most New Yorkers are under-dressed for spending much time outside. Along the way, newspapers proclaimed in headlines the demise of ...

General Motors today announced that it is ramping up sales of its plug-in hybrid electric car, the Chevy Volt, in two new states: North Carolina and South Carolina. Like other new electric cars, the Volt is only available in a few states. Before today’s announcement, it was available in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, California, Michigan and Texas, a representative of the company said. The Leaf initially rolled out in California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona and Tennessee. California is the only state where the two cars overlap right now. Volt deliveries will begin in North Carolina and South Carolina in August, company officials said. Nissan has taken the lead in the small, but fiercely competitive, low-end electric car market. The company sold 1,708 Leaf cars in June. That puts it well ahead of General Motors, ...

Nissan’s all-electric Leaf is now the clear leader in low-end electric car sales. Nissan sold 1,708 Leaf cars in June. That puts it well ahead of General Motors, which sold 561 of its hybrid electric Volt cars in the same month. Nissan has now sold 3,875 Leafs compared to General Motors’ 2,745 Volts sold in the first half of the year. It’s the first indication that Nissan has taken an early lead in the fiercely competitive, but still very small, race for electric car sales. While Volt sales have risen incrementally, Nissan Leaf have gone up by around 50 percent each month for the past few months. Nissan’s Leaf sales were more than double that of the Volt in May, with the company selling 1,142 cars in the month. General Motors sold 481 Volts in ...

AeroVironment's Level 3 fast charging, CHAdeMO compliant stations deliver high-power, DC charging for EV drivers with very little time to spare, mirroring the way drivers currently use gasoline stations. (Photo: Business Wire)Oregon is the next state that will distribute electric car charging stations to alleviate some of the crippling range concerns that pure electric cars face when trying to attract mainstream car buyers. The chargers are designed to be “fast-chargers,” which use a 480-volt direct electrical current to charge an electric vehicle fully in around a half hour. NRG Energy recently began deploying fast chargers in Texas as part of its eVgo project between Houston and Dallas — a 250 mile stretch that most pure plug-in electric cars won’t be able to fully traverse without stopping to recharge. Oregon’s new electric car chargers will appear on a 150-mile stretch of highway on Interstate 5 — ...

Riding high on a bout of good press of its Chevy Volt, GM is making its next big bet on electric cars: cheaper, higher-energy batteries. In his state of the union address yesterday, President Obama called for the U.S. to be the first country to put one million electric cars on the roads by 2015. While there’s great interest in electric cars, mass adoption is still hobbled by availability, price of the battery and consumer concerns about range limitations. Today, GM announced it had invested $7 million in Envia Systems, a Newark, Calif.-based maker of lithium-ion cathode technology that it says can increase energy density of battery cells by one-third and for less money. Envia says it uses cathode materials that stores more energy per unit of mass than current cathode materials, meaning less of it can be used, yielding a cheaper ...

Chevy’s electric hybrid vehicle, the Volt, beat out the cheaper Nissan Leaf in electric car sales in the last month of 2010 as each manufacturer struggled to keep up with demand for their newest rides, the Associated Press reported today. The Volt went into production in mid-November and hit dealerships a few weeks later, just in time to compete with the Nissan Leaf. So far it looks like the Volt has won out in terms of sheer numbers — GM sold between 250 and 350 Volts in December. Only around 10 Nissan Leaf cars were actually sold in the past two weeks. There are around 50,000 people on the wait list for the Leaf, but Nissan initially limited rolling out its new electric vehicle line to around 200 cars in December across five states. ...

It’s official: Electric cars for the mass consumer crowd have arrived. The first all-electric Nissan Leaf was sold last week to a man in California, and more are trickling in. And the first Chevrolet Volts (pictured) — GM’s model that can go up to 50 miles on battery power before switching to its gas “range extender” — are rolling off assembly lines in Detroit this week, with 160 cars slated to go to dealers in California, Texas, Washington, D.C. and New York. There are more on the way. The Coda sedan is slated for the second quarter of 2011, and the Ford Focus Electric will have a 20-city launch in late 2011. Norway’s Think plans to build 300 of its electric vehicles in Indiana by the end of this year. The Wheego is ...
